Purpose of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessments

  • The client AS Estonian Cell is a company established to own, build and operate a modern, state of the art aspen pulpmill at Kunda, Estonia. In production, the plant will use contemporary environment-friendly Bleached Chemi-Thermo-Mechanical Pulp (BCTMP) technology, and plans to reach 140 000 tonnes of aspen pulp as an annual output.
  • The project will utilise and provide value to the currently under-utilised abundant aspen resources of Estonia and will create additional employment not only at the plant but also for the supply side in the forestry sector.
  • The project will provide strong technology transfer as the plant will be the first new pulpmill to be built in the Baltics for several decades.
