Purpose of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessments

The EBRD is considering providing financing to EDP Renovavies (referred to as EDPR or the "Developer") for the construction of two wind farms in Romania.

The project is located in the Dobrogea area of Romania, about 100 km inland west from Constanta Black Sea port. These consist of the Pestera (90 MW) and the nearby Cernavoda (138 MW) wind farms. The projects are at advanced stages of development (with construction works started) and have obtained environmental and construction permits in line with National requirements. None of the projects are located in Natura 2000 areas.

The Project is controlled and developed by EDP Renováveis through Renovatio Power SRL and Cernavoda Power SRL, two Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs), owning Pestera and Cernavoda wind farms respectively.
EDPR is the world’s third largest wind energy company with installed capacity of 6,227 MW at year-end 2009 and another 739 MW under construction. EDPR has an active presence in eight European countries (Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Poland, Italy, UK and Romania), United States (43% of EDPR’s installed capacity) and Brazil.

There is a project summary document available for this project.
