Purpose of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessments
A senior loan to Gurmat Elektrik Uretim A.S. Efeler GPP Extension Project is the expansion of the existing Bank-financed Efeler Geothermal Power Plant Project (Efeler GPP) and construction of an additional 3 units as well as the associated boreholes, pipelines and transmission lines (the Project).
The Project will increase the existing total operating capacities of Efeler GPP by 97.6 MWe, from 162.3 MWe to 259.9 MWe. The Banks due diligence and ESIA take account of the cumulative impacts and performance to date of the plants and compliance with existing ESAP. The ESIA disclosure has been updated to take account of stakeholder concerns and a court decision in 2018.
Guris Holding (“Guris”) is a large, Turkish company with interests in the construction, energy generation, and industrial sectors (www.gurisholding.com). The Project will help Guris to expand its renewable energy portfolio and allow for the development of renewable energy in Turkey. The Geothermal Power Plant has been developed in line with Turkish legislation and an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been completed as part of the local compliance process.
There is a project summary document available for this project.
