Australia is a founding member of the EBRD with an 1 per cent share.

Australia does not receive EBRD funding, but we encourage companies from Australia to apply for procurement and consultancy opportunities associated with our projects. Australian banks also participate in the EBRD Trade Facilitation Programme as confirming banks.

Australia is a contributor to the SEMED MDA; they joined in 2012 with a contribution of €500,000.

€1 billion joint Australian-EBRD investment

The value of joint Australia-EBRD investment stood at €1 billion as of October 2022. EBRD finance accounted for €542.5.2 million, and Australia investment accounted for €455.5million. 

The joint investment has been important across the EBRD’s region in various countries such as Mongolia and the Slovak Republic. Broken down by industry, the joint investment has been in the following sectors: industry, commerce and agribusiness, sustainable infrastructure and financial institutions.

Australian (seven) banks also participate in the EBRD Trade Facilitation Programme as confirming banks and since inception, the TFP has supported 13 export and import transactions for Australian companies for a total €7.18 million, for transactions which were initiated by banks in the EBRD countries of operation and confirmed by banks in both Australia and abroad.

From 2015 to 2021, entities from Australia won 69 consultancy contracts worth €2.6 million in total.
