This publication is the result of the Born in ‘89 essay competition organised by the EBRD with our partners UniCredit and the Financial Times.
The essay competition, launched in November 2009 to commemorate the fall of the Iron Curtain in Eastern Europe, drew a strong response from the young generation in the EBRD region. Almost 600 essays were submitted to our international jury – the author Andrei Kurkov, journalist Quentin Peel, the former president of National Public Radio Kevin Klose, the publisher Nenad Popović, the writer Slađana Bukovac, the journalists Velislav Radev and Danuta Walewska.
