Spain is a founding member of the EBRD and an important contributor to the Bank's work.
Since 1992, Spain has contributed more than €214 million through bilateral and multi-donor funds.

Spain is an important contributor to multi-donor funds such as the European Western Balkans Joint Fund, the EBRD's Sustainable Infrastructure Fund (SIF), the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) Multi-Donor Account, and the High-Impact Partnership on Climate Action (HIPCA). In 2019 Spain contributed €2m to the Southern and eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) Multi-Donor Account. In addition, significant contributions were made to the Multilateral Carbon Credit Fund. In 2023, Spain provided unfunded guarantees worth up to €100 million to support the Bank’s operations in Ukraine’s municipal sector, as well as for food security in Ukraine and other where the EBRD works that are affected by the war on Ukraine.
The value of joint Spain-EBRD investment stood at €5.07 billion as of February 2023. EBRD finance accounted for €2.85 billion, and Spanish investment accounted for €2.22 billion.
The investment has been especially strong in Poland, followed by regional projects, Türkiye, Romania, and Hungary. Broken down by industry, has been in sustainable infrastructure, industry, commerce and agribusiness, and financial institutions.
Spanish banks are participating in the Trade Facilitation Programme, through which the EBRD guarantees the payment of trade finance instruments issued by banks in its countries of operations to foreign confirming banks. Since inception, the TFP has supported 785 export and import transactions for Spanish companies for a total € 399.06 million, for transactions which were initiated by banks in the EBRD countries of operation and confirmed by banks in both Spain and abroad. Twenty-one Spanish banks and branches of banks have joined the programme as Confirming Banks (all figures as at December 2022).
From 2018 to 2022, entities from Spain won 233 consultancy contracts worth €772,388,492.00.
