The EBRD is considering providing a senior loan of up to €50 million to Bank Gospodarki Zywnosciowej S.A. (“BGZ”) for on-lending to micro, small and medium-sized entreprises (MSMEs). The MSME loan will assist BGZ to further expand its lending activities to private sector Polish entrepreneurs and farmers, particularly in rural areas.
The MSME loan will increase supply of medium-term funding and will allow an increasing number of MSMEs and farmers, including in less developed regions of Poland, to have access to bank financing.
BGZ, a subsidiary of Rabobank, is a Polish universal bank with a country wide reach and total assets of €5.9 billion as of the end of 2009. BGZ is a leading player in agricultural financing with close to 19% market share.
MSME loan of up to €50 million.
Screened FI (2008). BGZ will be required to comply with the EBRD's Performance Requirements for FIs (specifically, PR2 and 9). As an existing client BGZ is familiar with EBRD's environmental requirement. The environmental procedures adopted by BGZ on the occasion of EBRD's earlier investments are fully in line with PR9 of the EBRD's 2008 ESP. The bank will be required to adhere to the EBRD's Environmental and Social Exclusion and Referral Lists and submit annual environmental and social reports to the EBRD.
None for this project. The bank has benefited from previous TC support under the EU/EBRD SME Finance Facility (Rural Window).
