Managing Director, Equity
Managing Director, EquityHassan El Khatib is the Managing Director, Equity at the EBRD, overlooking the Bank direct investments and equity funds and partially responsible for the Equity Portfolio Management Unit.
Mr El Khatib joined the EBRD in June 2012 as the Director of the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region, Industry Commerce and Agribusiness.
With 25 years’ experience, Mr El Khatib had been through all stages of direct investments; fundraising, investing, value creation and notably exit realization primarily in Egypt and North Africa. He has also served as board member in numerous boards that cover insurance, industry, pharmaceutical, tourism, real estate, oil and gas, telecommunication and textiles.
Prior to joining the EBRD, he served as chairman of the Egyptian Tourism Development Company, Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh Hotel Company, The Egyptian Touristic Company; Board member of Egypt Capital Tourism Holding company and Philae Cruisers Company; and Senior Advisor to the Carlyle Group MENA Fund focusing on North Africa.
Between 2007 and 2011, Mr El Khatib was Managing Director, the Carlyle Group, MD Carlyle Egypt Investment Advisory services, overlooking investments in North Africa and part of Carlyle MENA fund.
Before joining Carlyle, he was Managing Partner of EFG-Hermes Private Equity, a leading investment bank in the Middle East with operations in Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon. Mr. ElKhatib managed and raised several funds both generalist and sector focused funds with investments in Egypt, Jordan and Turkey.
Prior to EFG-Hermes, Mr El Khatib was a Partner at Commercial International Investment Company “CIIC”, and before that, Deputy General Manager at AlAhly for Development and Investment.
Mr El Khatib received his MBA from California State University, Sacramento; CMA from the Institute of International Accountants; and BS from Cairo University, Faculty of Engineering.
