In collaboration with the Yunus Emre Enstitüsü, the EBRD will be screening a new Turkish film entitled “The Smell of Money”, directed and edited by Ahmet Boyacioglu. This screening is part of the 2nd annual London Turkish Film Week from 24-30 April.
“The Smell of Money” (Turkish, 2018, 100 minutes, English subtitles) tells the story of Mehmet, a taxi cab driver in an Ankara suburb who regales his friends with tales of the murky, sometimes unlawful dealings of his passengers. He and they decide to take action and when an opportunity for blackmail arises, they become something like a “Robin Hood” of the neighbourhood - with unintended consequences.
Our special guest for the evening will be Turkish director and screenwriter Ahmet Boyacioglu who, after 20 years as a surgeon, changed career and entered the world of Turkish cinema, serving on the executive committee of the Ankara International Film Festival as well as producing and directing his own films.
After the screening, we will have a discussion with Dr. Boyacioglu, followed by a drinks reception for all.
This event is organised by the EBRD Cultural Programme and the Yunus Emre Enstitüsü, the cultural institute of the Republic of Turkey.
Doors will open for registration at 17.15 and coffee and tea will be served. The screening will begin promptly at 18.00, followed by a discussion and Q&A session, and drinks reception.
Please register by Thursday 25 April.
