The EBRD and the Central European Initiative (CEI) will jointly host a conference titled "Supporting Local Enterprises and SMEs along China’s Belt and Road Initiative in South Eastern Europe", on 19 May 2016 in Trieste, Italy.
The conference will provide a high-level platform for discussion focused on the South Eastern European (SEE) route of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with an emphasis on investment and growth potential for local enterprises and Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs).
Representatives from both the public and private sector will be able to discuss their investment plans along South Eastern Europe and route and in particular opportunities they create for local enterprises and SMEs.
The EBRD is putting a strong focus on attracting new sources of investment into the countries where it works. It sees significant potential from infrastructure financing along the “New Silk Road” infrastructure corridor. The EBRD is uniquely placed to help local economies in the region to benefit from the opportunities these investments can bring. The EBRD can also help foster the right political, economic and policy context for Chinese investments in the region and utilise this platform to discuss complementarities between the European and Chinese investment plans.
