Covid-19 post-crisis recovery for the energy sector

The EBRD hosted a workshop on Wednesday 20 January, at 10:30 am GMT to discuss the impact of Covid-19 on the energy sector in countries where the Bank works as well as how to build back better as we transition from crisis to recovery.

EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso opened the workshop. Dr Fatih Birol, CEO of the International Energy Agency (IEA) participated with the keynote address.

EBRD has sent a survey to key energy stakeholders across our Countries of Operation, asking them to provide input on the impacts of Covid-19 and priorities for the energy sector going forward, with a focus on a green, inclusive and digital recovery. Pierre Heilbronn, Vice-President Policy and Partnerships, outlined the main findings of the EBRD survey. The full results are shared below.

Ms Natia Turnava, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development went through the impact this crisis is having on Georgia’s energy sector and the reforms it is going through.

Mr Tim Gould, Head of Division for Energy Supply Outlooks at IEA presented IEA’s views on Post-Covid Perspectives for the energy sector with a particular focus in EBRD’s COOs.

The panel session was moderated by Aida Sitdikova, Director, Head of Energy Eurasia, SIG, EBRD with the participation of Mr Daler Shofakir Juma, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr David Tvalabeishvili, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and Mr Tim Gould.
