Join us for the launch of the EBRD Transition Report 2019-20 on 19 November at EBRD’s London Headquarters.
This latest Transition Report, ‘Better governance, better economies’, examines recent trends in governance at the country, region and firm level, and demonstrates how and why governance matters for economic growth, the perceived quality of life and the natural environment.
Weak governance creates uncertainty, damages competitiveness and creates an uneven playing field. The EBRD regions entered the 1990s with much weaker governance than advanced economies. While improvements in governance over the subsequent two decades were larger than in economies with comparable incomes, the “governance gap” with respect to advanced economies remains large.
The Transition Report 2019-2020 shows that narrowing this gap and improving governance would yield a substantial growth dividend for economies, regions and individual firms.
Beata Javorcik, EBRD’s Chief Economist, will present the key data, findings and conclusions from the Report. This will be followed by a panel discussion on governance between leading experts, including:
- Zümrüt İmamoğlu, Chief Economist of the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD)
- Rebecca Self, Chief Financial Officer, Sustainable Finance at HSBC
- Paolo Mauro, Senior Manager at the Fiscal Affairs Department, International Monetary Fund
This special event at EBRD HQ will start at 16.00. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time to clear security.
