Hot testing started at Chernobyl spent-fuel storage
A milestone was passed in Chernobyl this week with the start of hot testing at the Interim Storage Facility 2 (ISF-2). The facility will store the spent nuclear fuels from reactors 1, 2 and 3 of the nuclear power plant for at least 100 years. It cost €400 million and was financed by the international community through the EBRD-managed Nuclear Safety Account.

Supporting coronavirus response and recovery in EU Neighbourhood
The EBRD and the EU through Team Europe are providing over €500 million to support sustainable investments in municipal, infrastructure and industrial sectors affected by the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic in the southern and eastern EU Neighbourhood regions, with an additional focus on Covid-19 recovery.
Funding boost for Turkish businesses as EBRD lends to Isbank
The EBRD is supporting Turkish companies experiencing temporary difficulties because of the coronavirus pandemic with a US$ 54 million loan to Isbank for on-lending to small businesses helping them overcome the crisis.

Boosting Raiffeisen Bank Albania’s lending capacity
The EBRD is increasing access to finance to private businesses in Albania thanks to a risk-sharing facility of up to €50 million signed with Raiffeisen Bank Albania. It will strengthen the lender’s capacity to meet the financial needs of selected clients.

Modernising rail transport in Moldova
The EBRD, EU and EIB helped Moldova Railways to invest in 12 new locomotives which will ensure better and safer transport and carry much larger loads than before. They also use less energy, cutting related costs by about 25 per cent and CO2 emissions by 40 per cent.
Helping a car service provider in Mongolia
The EBRD and its donors, including the EU, the EBRD’s Early Transition Countries Fund and Japan, are supporting DAC, a chain of car repairs in Moldova. The EBRD’s Advice for Small Businesses initiative is helping DAC to improve financial reporting and introduce a management information system. DAC also received a US$ 2.7 million loan from local Khan Bank, co-financed by the EBRD.

Insolvency – a looming threat
The EBRD organised a webinar to discuss the launch of its new assessment tool aimed at addressing gaps in insolvency frameworks across its regions.
EBRD and Women 20 call on G20 members to mainstream gender equality
The EBRD and Women 20, the official G20 engagement group for women’s empowerment, urged in a joint statement that G20 leaders put women at the heart of all immediate and long-term post-Covid-19 recovery efforts. The appeal also draws on new policy recommendations.

Dispute resolution in Moldova
The EBRD Legal Transition Programme (LTP), with the support of the UK’s Good Governance Fund and USAID, has implemented projects to establish a robust alternative dispute resolution framework and practice in Moldova. It will allow parties to settle their differences without the intervention of courts.
Supporting global Edutech provider PeopleCert
The EBRD’s advisory programme in Greece, funded by the European Union, provided support to PeopleCert, a leader in the assessment and certification of professional skills and languages. The programme helped PeopleCert to advance its capabilities for managing scalable growth in business management, sales, marketing and operations.
