Introducing better HR practices in Azeri companies

Business Advisory Services (BAS) have helped a multi-service provider to increase its turnover through improved HR practices.

In 2004, when internet technologies and the service sector started to rapidly develop in Azerbaijan, a group of IT professionals founded Nat-Co LLC. At that time they could only dream that in less than ten years their company would become one of the leading IT and engineering service providers in the country.

Later on, in order to offer a full package of services and to accommodate their clients’ needs, the young owners of the company expanded Nat-Co operations and added new business lines: office design and furnishing. In a very short time Nat-Co LLC has succeeded in broadening its client base from the energy sector to the financial and public sector.

Human resources management

Due to fast growth and an increase in the number of employees, Elvar Lazgiyev, director and co-founder of the company, decided to reorganize the company’s HR system and to develop an effective strategy for the retention and motivation of employees to strengthen work efficiency and increase turnover.

In 2011 Mr Lazgiyev started a consultancy project with the support of the EBRD Business Advisory Services, which in Azerbaijan is funded by the European Union - Eastern Partnership, in cooperation with local firm GDG Professionals. Within a year Nat-Co has strengthened its professional team by hiring additional key employees and developing the retention and motivation system, reworked its organisational structure and introduced clear job descriptions and a delegation principle. The improved effectiveness of the marketing and sales department contributed to a significant increase in the company’s annual turnover.

Currently, the company is the proud official distributor of several international trademarked IT and security systems and is providing its services to the Four Seasons Hotel chain and the Azerbaijan Airlines company.
