Twenty years after the fall of communism the global financial crisis has put the transition region to an unprecedented test. Many countries are suffering severe recessions. This Transition Report 2009 focuses on the challenges posed by the crisis: both for the countries directly, and for the economic strategies they have followed since the collapse of communism.
