Does transition make you happy?

Using evidence from the World Values Survey, this paper analyses life satisfaction in transition countries. The analysis shows that the happiest groups are females, people with higher levels of education, higher income- earners and people who are self-employed. On average, however, people living in transition countries are less satisfied with their lives than individuals in non-transition economies.
