Energy Efficiency fact cards
Energy efficiency is a key issue in the Bank’s countries of operations. All
these countries exceed the EU average for energy intensity, some use almost
seven times as much energy as western Europe per unit of GDP. High energy
usage is partly to due to the cold climate and the needs of heavy industry but
there is also a legacy of enormous reliance on inefficient Soviet-era energy
systems.
This set of fact cards show the reality behind the 'burning issue' of energy
efficiency in the Bank's countries of operations.
