EBRD funds Lithuanian energy group E-Energija’s expansion to Ukraine [Press Release]
EBRD loan supports E-Energija’s operations [Press Release]

Project description
and objectives:

EBRD is considering an equity investment in E-energija, a energy holding company, which through its subsidiaries provides heat and hot water services in small and medium sized cities to both residential and industrial customers in Lithuania and Latvia and is considering expanding its operations into Ukraine.

Transition impact:

The transition impact will likely be achieved though increased private sector participation in district heating, a sector which is traditionally government owned, providing real demonstration example of improved service levels and commercialisation.

The client:

E-energija, privately held energy company, which through its subsidiaries  provides heat and hot water services in small and medium sized cities to both residential and industrial customers in Lithuania and Latvia.

EBRD finance:

EUR 5million equity in the holding company and EUR 15 million long term debt, provided in two tranches to its Ukrainian subsidiary

Total project cost:

EUR 25 million.

Environmental impact:

Screened C/1. The project is expected to result in significant environmental benefits. The Company seeks to improve the efficiency of the systems it is operating and, in doing so, reduces environmental and health impacts. A corporate environmental audit is being undertaken to review the Company's current approach to project due diligence and environment, health and safety management during facility renovation and operation. The environmental investigations will focus on the Company's approach to upgrading and developing the facilities under its operation and on the systems the Company employs to manage key environment, health, safety and labour issues in its operations.

This section will be updated upon completion of the due diligence.
