Project description
and objectives:

The project supports Amica Wronki S.A. expansion in Russia. The EBRD finance a part of the construction and start-up of a new greenfield cookers factory in Novgorod region, Russia.

The factory would produce gas, electric and gas-electric cookers, mostly for the local market.

Transition impact:

The transition impact potential of this transaction derives from:

The transition impact potential of this transaction derives from:

(i) the project being one of the few foreign direct investments in the white goods sector in the region and therefore its expected positive role in promoting technological, environmental, management and corporate governance standards for the industry

(ii) enhancing competition within the industry in terms of efficiency, product quality and delivery

(iii) demonstration effect by sending a signal to the market that an international player is now changing its strategy from only importing finished goods to outsourcing processing facilities to Russia and that such factories in Russia may yield attractive financial returns.

The client:

OOO Hansa, a limited liability company incorporated in the Russian Federation for the purpose of implementing the project, which is fully owned by Amica Wronki S.A. – a leading Polish white goods producer.

EBRD finance:

EBRD long-term senior loan for USD 25.3 million.

Total project cost:

USD 39 million.

Environmental impact:

The environmental due diligence, including a site visit by the Bank’s Environmental Specialist and a review of documentation, confirmed that the environmental impacts from constructing the site will be limited. The most significant issue associated with the project is the potential impact (including flooding) of storm-water and drainage run-off and compliance of the proposed technology, notably the paint shop, with EU environmental standards. Additional information needs to be obtained from the Company to clarify these issues and complete the environmental due diligence. The Project is structured to meet both Russia and EU environmental standards and an Environmental Action Plan (EAP), which will address the drainage and the paint shop operations, will be developed and agreed with the Company prior to Board consideration. The Sponsor’s production capacities in Poland are well controlled and high standard facilities and meet all the requirements of EU standards including ISO 9001-2000, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certificate and the Occupational Health and Safety Certificate according to the PN-N-18001 and OHSAS 18001).
