$50 mln to fund export of Russian cargo planes [Press Release]
Projects in Russia [EBRD - Countries]

Project description
and objectives:

Proposed financing of the manufacture of the Tupolev 204-120 aircraft (Tupolev 204, equipped with Rolls Royce Engines and Honeywell navigation equipment) at Aviastar, an aircraft manufacturing facility based in Ulyanovsk. The objective is to assist in the restructuring and development of the Russian aerospace industry through the involvement of Sirocco Aerospace International, which will develop export sales of the Tu 204-120 and provide investments in the Russian supplier.

Transition impact:

The project will support the restructuring of the Russian aerospace industry and the transition of Aviastar to market-oriented practices, as its export and domestic sales expand.

The client:

Sirocco Aerospace Russia, a company set up by Sirocco Aerospace International, an Egyptian Company with interest in the Aerospace sector. Sirocco Aerospace International has concluded a number of aircraft sale agreements of the cargo version of the Tu204. Sirocco has signed contracts for five cargo models from two Chinese airlines plus options for a further ten.

EBRD finance:

US$ 50 million

Total project cost:

US$ 150 million

Environmental impact:

The project was screened C/1. An Environmental Audit of Aviastar, the aircraft manufacturer, has been carried out by international consultants. The investigations showed that Aviastar is generally in compliance with relevant Russian EHS regulations and that there are no known areas of soil and groundwater contamination at or near the site. The investigations also confirmed that the new aircraft has been designed to meet international (ICAO and Joint Civil Aviation Authorities) standards for aircraft noise and engine emissions. Based on the findings of the Audit, an Environmental Action Plan (EAP) has been developed. The EAP includes measures for enhancing energy efficiency, reducing water consumption, developing an environmental management system as well as for improving occupational health and safety.
