Make jam, not war: Bosnia’s Vegafruit jam factory [Story]

Project description
and objectives:

Proposed medium-term €5 million credit facility for on-lending purposes. Raiffeisen Bank d.d. BiH would use proceeds of the loan to provide medium-term financing to its customers, mostly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

The EBRD would provide medium-term funding, which is severely limited in the BiH market. RB would use proceeds of the loan to provide medium-term financing to its customers in BiH.

Transition impact:

The EBRD funding would stimulate growth within the private SME sector and would strengthen the institutional capacity of RB.

The client:

Raiffeisen Bank d.d. BiH (RB) is ranked as the second largest bank and is also one of the most profitable banks in BiH. The bank is majority owned by RZB, the leading bank of the Austrian Raiffeisen Banking Group.

EBRD finance:

A €5 million five-year credit facility.

Total project cost:

€5 million.

Environmental impact:

As an existing client of the Bank, RB is familiar with the EBRD's environmental requirements for financial intermediaries. RB will be required to continue to comply with the EBRD's Environmental procedures for intermediated financing through local banks, including adherence to the Environmental exclusion list, observance of the national environmental, health and safety legislation, and environmental reporting to the Bank on an annual basis.

cooperation:
