Project description
and objectives:

Design and construction of a sewerage sub-system – comprising a main collector and nine pumping stations. The project will ensure the treatment of all of Rijeka’s municipal waste water.

The main objectives of the project are to ensure the treatment of Rijeka’s waste water in line with EU regulations. Other objectives are to implement a financial and operational performance improvement programme for ViK and a municipal credit enhancement programme for the city of Rijeka.

Transition impact:

This project will be the first municipal-guaranteed loan in the municipal and environmental sector in Rijeka. The project will include a technical cooperation programme to develop cost reduction and operational improvement targets.

The client:

The city of Rijeka and the Rijeka Water and Sewerage Company (Vodovod I Kanalizacija – ViK). ViK provides water and sewerage services to 260,000 customers in Rijeka and eight surrounding municipalities.

EBRD finance:

The EBRD loan amounts to €7.5 million. In addition, the EBRD is considering financing a €600,000 loan extension.

Total project cost:

€8.8 million, incorporating the new €600,000 loan extension.

Environmental impact:

This project has mainly environmentally related objectives and will contribute to reducing public hazards and pollution of surface water. Work carried out under the project will be in compliance with national and EU standards.

Technical
cooperation:

Technical cooperation will be provided to prepare and to help to implement a financial and operational performance programme for ViK.
