Petrom Power Plant [Project Summary Document]
EBRD invests in Romania’s first private power generation project [Press Release]
BERD investeste in primul proiect privat de generare a energiei electrice din Romania [Press Release]

Project description
and objectives:

The Project comprises a loan to Petrom for the construction of a new power plant on the grounds of the Petrobrazi refinery and associated infrastructure:

  • 860MW Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) at Petrobrazi Refinery complex;
  • 30km (approximate) natural gas pipeline (800mm diameter) from the village of Butimanu (Dambovita County) to Petrobrazi Refinery complex (Prahova County); and
  • 3km (approximate) overhead High Voltage (HV) power line connection from Petrobrazi Refinery complex to Brazi Vest substation and Romania National Grid.

The Project contributes to the revamping of the electricity sector in Romania, by improving environmental standards and efficiency. By increasing the presence of the private sector in the Romanian power generation sector, the Project stimulates competition and has the potential to facilitate other private investment through demonstration effects.
