Adjara Solid Waste Management Project [Project Summary Document]

Project description
and objectives:

The Borrower is the Republic of Georgia and the Client will be a newly created Solid Waste Management Company established to own and operate the proposed landfill facility.

Project Description:
Parallel financing with the Swedish International Development Co-operation Agency (‘SIDA’) of a new sanitary landfill facility to be built and operated in accordance with European Union standards.

Project Components/Locations:
• Construction of a new sanitary landfill at Chakvi;
• Construction of a gas extraction system; and,
• Closure of two existing landfills

Business Purpose / Transition Impact:
Support to Georgia for the development of a regional landfill to serve the western part of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. The Project will also provide technical co-operation to assist with the preparation and implementation of the project and a corporate development programme to build operational and management capacity within the newly created landfill management company.
