Hrvatske Ceste intends to construct the final section of the Rijeka by-pass
between Sveti Kuzam and Krizisce, totalling 8.365 km. This section will bypass
some urban areas of the eastern part of Rijeka, including Bakar and
Kraljevica. The by-pass will be constructed to a dual two-lane standard, with
a high structural content, including five viaducts (total length of 2.47 km)
and three tunnels (combined length of 1.33 km). It will also include two
interchanges, at Krizisce and at Hreljin, the latter of which also involves
bridge works.
The project will complete the eastern by-pass of Rijeka, relieving traffic in
the congested city centre and facilitating traffic movement to the south. In
addition, it aims to promote development of tourism given Rijeka’s crucial
geographical position for tourist traffic from the north and west of Europe.
Hrvatske Ceste is a state-owned company established in 2001, responsible for
the development and maintenance of the non-tolled state road network in
Croatia.
The proposed project will allow the Bank to continue to support road sector
reform in Croatia, including institutional development, by supporting the
institutional strengthening of Hrvatske Ceste.
There is a project summary document available for this project.
