Through our investments in first generation and follow on equity funds in central and south eastern Europe, Russia and the CIS, the EBRD has become the largest (and often cornerstone) private equity funds investor in the region with commitments of over €2.7 billion as of December 2009. Third parties manage the funds, enabling the EBRD to raise corporate governance standards and to promote best market practices and an entrepreneurial culture.
The EBRD’s significant support to its private equity fund managers accelerates the development and institutionalisation of the private equity industry in the region.
Private Equity Funds
Co-Investment Facility
In addition to investing into private equity funds directly, we also manage a Co-Investment Facility. The Facility enables established fund managers (both EBRD and non-EBRD funds) to propose co-investment opportunities to the Bank. The Co-Investment Facility has been successful in bridging the financing gap in the region and has been found by many private equity funds to be a useful source of additional capital.
