Transition Report 2011

New research seeks to explain significant shifts in support for democracy and market economics

This year's report is once again concerned with the themes of crisis and transition. Like its two predecessors, Transition in Crisis? (2009) and Recovery and Reform (2010), it focuses on understanding the global financial crisis and its longer-term implications.

We look beyond the crisis for sources of growth that are less sensitive to changes in the external environment than the capital-inflow driven boom of the pre-crisis years. And we do so from a fresh perspective: that of households and individuals.
