|Organiser||EBRD Turkey Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprise (MSME) Lending Programme|
On 18 April 2012 a conference addressing “Financing Agriculture in Turkey” will be held in Istanbul, Turkey. The conference is organised by the EBRD Turkey Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprise (MSME) Lending Programme to discuss the current state of financial investment in Turkish agriculture and to help banks understand how and why they should invest.
The EBRD Turkey MSME Lending Programme was established in 2010 as part of a larger effort to increase investment in farmers and agribusiness. The Programme works with partner banks to lend to agribusiness in rural areas of Turkey where access to credit is low. This conference will bring together key stakeholders and decision makers from the Turkish financial sector, international financial institutions, practitioners from the EBRD and FAO as well as Turkish farmers and agribusiness representatives.
The agenda includes an overview of the current state of agricultural lending, best practices in agriculture finance, and specific topics in lending strategy such as grain warehouse receipts. Agri-finance business is both a necessity for the rural agriculture sector of Turkey and an opportunity for commercial banks, for whom this is a largely unexplored market with many possibilities.
The EBRD Turkey MSME Lending Programme is supported by the donor funds provided by USAID and the European Union.
