Donor funding

Since 1994, the governments of Belgium, Flanders and Wallonia have contributed over €1.9 million in Technical Cooperation (TC) funds. This funding has mainly contributed to projects in manufacturing and transport in the EBRD’s region of operation.

Co-financing

Belgium is an important source of foreign direct investment in the EBRD’s countries of operations. As of January 2013 the value of joint Belgium-EBRD investment stood at €6.43 billion, of which the EBRD’s portion was €3.78 billion and Belgium’s was €2.65 billion.

Consultancy services and procurement

In 2012 Belgian consultants won 39 consultancy contracts with a total value of over €3.1 million, including 16 contracts totalling over €287,000 by the Small Business Support for provision of management advice. The main areas of expertise were in the power and energy, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and sustainable energy investment sectors.

Cooperation with Belgian banks

The EBRD works closely with Belgian banks in its countries of operations in the context of the EU/EBRD Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SME) Finance Facility. The Facility is channelled through local banks, leasing companies and equity funds. Belgian financial institutions have taken part in the programme through the Polish subsidiary of Fortis.
