Hans Peter Lankes has been Managing Director, Institutional Strategy since May 2011. In this function he has advised the President on the Bank’s Strategy and served as secretary to the Executive Committee.
Between July 2008 and May 2011 Mr Lankes was the Director of the President’s Office.
Previously he was the EBRD’s Deputy Chief Economist, with responsibility for economic assessments and clearance of projects and for helping design the Bank’s institutional strategy.
Prior to joining the EBRD in January 2007, Mr Lankes worked at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., where he was Chief of the Trade Division and held other roles over a six-year period.
Mr Lankes's earlier career saw him work at the Central American Business School, the Nicaraguan Ministry of Economy and the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce before a first period of employment at the EBRD between 1993 and 2000.
Mr Lankes is a German National and holds academic qualifications from Université de Grenoble, Albert Ludwigs Universität Freiburg and Harvard University.
