Experts in our Energy Efficiency and Climate Change team work closely with sector specialists and Regional Offices to integrate Sustainable Energy Initiative opportunities into the mainstream of the Bank.
We provide investment and technical cooperation in six main priority areas:
- large-scale corporate energy efficiency
- sustainable energy financing facilities through financial intermediaries
- cleaner energy in the power sector
- renewable energy
- energy efficiency in municipal infrastructure
- carbon market support
plus use of new global financing instruments and support of policy dialogue.

Current focus and key challenges
Energy efficiency is a key issue in the Bank's countries of operations, all of which use more energy than the average EU country. Companies and institutions face increasing and unsustainable energy costs as energy prices rise towards international levels.
