The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan proposes to use the proceeds of a loan from the EBRD to reconstruct the road between Aktobe via Martuk to the border of the Russian Federations in Aktubinsk region of west Kazakhstan. The road has a total length of 102 km and an estimated reconstruction cost of USD 127.5 million. The Project will require the procurement of the following works, goods and services:
• civil works contracts for the rehabilitation of the road between Atyrau and Aktau; and
• consultants for Phase I – development of detailed designs; Phase II - supervision and assisting with project implementation.
The invitation for consultants to express interest in tendering for the contract for engineering supervision is expected to be in June 2008. Tendering for the civil works contracts are expected to be launched in the last quarter of 2008.
Contracts to be financed with the proceeds of a loan from the European Bank will be subject to the Bank's Procurement Policies and Rules and will be open to firms from any country. The proceeds of the Bank's loan will not be used for the purpose of any payment to persons or entities, or for any import of goods, if such payment or import is prohibited by a decision of the United Nations Security Council taken under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations or under a law of official regulation of the Purchaser's country.
