The Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) intends to apply for a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in the amount of EUR 255 million equivalent toward the cost of the Electricity Transmission Rehabilitation Project, Phase II.

The Project will include the following components:

(a) Consulting services for PIU assistance.

(b) Refurbishment of transmission substations, including replacement of high voltage and power equipment as well as protective relays equipment at KEGOC’s 9 branches (55 substations) divided into the following packages:

Package 1. Refurbishment of transmission substations at Akmolinskie MES (9 substations), Sarbaiskie MES (6 substations), Severnye MES (6 substations);

Package 2. Refurbishment of transmission substations at Aktubinskie MES (3 substations), Zapadnye MES (4 substations), Shymkentskie MES (10 substations);

Package 3. Refurbishment of transmission substations at Almatinskie MES (6 substations), Vostochnye MES (3 substations), Tsentralnie MES (8 substations).

Procurement of the contracts financed by the loan will be conducted through the procedures specified in the Procurement Policies and Rules for projects financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (current edition August 2000), and is open to all tenderers from all countries regardless of whether the country is a member of the EBRD.

Specific procurement notices for contracts to be tendered under the EBRD’s open tendering procedures and for large-value consultants’ contracts will be announced, as they become available, in Procurement opportunities section of EBRD Website (www.ebrd.com) and local newspapers.
