Enguri Hydro Power Plant Rehabilitation Project

 

Georgia has applied for a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, to be onlent to Enguhresi Ltd which intends using the proceeds for a project to improve the dam and power water operational safety and enhance the environmental benefits of the Enguri Hydro Power Plant and downstream hydro power plants on the Enguri River.

The first stage of the proposed project, which has a total estimated cost of about $ 63 million equivalent is now completed. The second phase of the project which has a total estimated cost of about $ [15] million equivalent required the procurement of the following goods, works and services:

• Civil Works Contract for rehabilitation of the Dam and Waterways (which is being handled under a contract extension with the existing contractor);
• Electro Mechanical Works at the Power Station (which is being handled under a contract extension with the existing contractor);
• Rehabilitation of hydraulic and electrical control system of low level outlet gates on Arch Dam of Enguri HPP (open international tender)

Tendering for the above contracts is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2007.

Contracts to be financed with the proceeds of a loan from the Bank will be subject to the Bank's Procurement Policies and Rules and will be open to firms from any country. The proceeds of the Bank's loan will not be used for the purpose of any payment to persons or entities, for any import of goods, if such payment or import is prohibited by a decision of the United Nations Security Council taken under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations or under a law of official regulation of the Purchaser's country.
