The EBRD is supporting the commercialisation and restructuring of healthcare services in Poland with a PLN 40 million (EUR 10 million equivalent) to Grupa Nowy Szpital Sp. z o.o. (“GNS”) to finance an investment programme which will be part of the restructuring and expansion of GNS healthcare operations. GNS Group is the biggest private healthcare operator in Poland with a network of 13 hospitals in the country.

Private investments complement public delivery of services while setting standards of efficiency and quality. Increased investment in the sector is expected to have beneficial effects on many participants. “The project gives the EBRD an opportunity to support GNS in its drive to bring best practices and know-how to the healthcare industry” said Frederic Lucenet, EBRD Director for Manufacturing and Services.

“The EBRD financing will support GNS in its funding needs for capital investment. Moreover, the collaboration with the EBRD will further strengthen our position as a company which is strongly committed to the promotion of high-quality medical services” said Marcin Szulwinski, President of the Management Board of Grupa Nowy Szpital.

“EBRD’s financing comes in at the right time when the needs of local hospitals are growing. The additional funding provides necessary support for the strategic project carried out by GNS in cooperation with its sister company ZUK Know-How” commented Adam Roslewski, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Grupa Nowy Szpital.

Since the beginning of its operations in 1991, the EBRD has invested over €6.7 billion in Poland in more than 325 projects. In addition to its wide product range for banks and companies, in recent years the Bank has also built a growing portfolio of investments in the manufacturing and services sector, for which demand remains high.
