Significant new contributions to Chernobyl fund expected
Significant new contributions to the international Chernobyl Shelter Fund are
expected at a Pledging Meeting following the next Donor Assembly Conference to
be held on 12 May 2005 in London at the EBRD, which administers the Chernobyl
fund.
The new donations will come on top of more than €600 million in cash
contribution already pledged to the fund by 28 donor governments. The
programme will transform the destroyed Unit 4 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power
Plant into an environmentally safe state and is scheduled to be completed in
2008/2009.
Media representatives are invited to a press conference at the EBRD after
the meeting on 12 May, 16.00hrs. Participants will be Hans Blix as
chairman of the Donor Assembly, representatives of the British and Ukrainian
governments as co-chairs of the Pledging Meeting, and EBRD Vice President
Fabrizio Saccomanni as host.
