EBRD and Dalkia extend cooperation
New investments will boost energy efficiency in Bank’s region
The EBRD and Dalkia International are extending their cooperation with an
additional €150 million multi-project facility provided by the Bank to finance
the company’s expansion in the Bank’s countries of operations. The EBRD will
provide loans or equity to Dalkia for investment into existing and new energy
efficiency operations.
The extended facility builds on a successful cooperation between Dalkia and
the EBRD, which began in 1996 with the first $50 million facility, and was
extended in 2001 with another €100 million. The funds helped Dalkia
International to set up project companies in the Slovak Republic, Hungary,
Poland, Lithuania and Romania investing in energy service companies, district
heating networks and associated plants.
As a leading energy provider to business and local authorities the company is
on the forefront of promoting energy efficiency through investment in, and
maintenance of, assets. All operations will be required to comply with
applicable national and EU environmental regulations.
At the signing of the agreement, Alain Pilloux, EBRD Business Group Director
Central and Eastern Europe and Specialised Industries, said that Dalkia
International’s investments have generated important changes in a sector which
remains largely publicly owned. The Bank stands ready to provide funds and
also sees itself as a catalyst to third party participation.
Olivier Barbaroux, Chairman of Dalkia, indicated that the additional funds
will be used to expand Dalkia’s operations which will benefit industrial,
municipalities and individual customers through greater competition and
improved services in a sector where competition is often still limited.
Dalkia International is the vehicle through which the Paris-based Dalkia Group
conducts its activities outside France. Dalkia’s services include heating and
electricity production mainly by cogeneration, cooling systems, heating and
multi-technical services, industrial utilities, installation and maintenance
of production equipment and integrated facilities management services. A
significant part of its activity contributes to improving energy efficiency.
