EBRD President Lemierre to visit Egypt
EBRD President Jean Lemierre will start a two-day visit to Egypt on Thursday.
During his stay Mr Lemierre will meet government officials and representatives
of the business and banking communities. Egypt has been a shareholder in the
EBRD since the Bank’s establishment in 1991 and active in various projects.
During his visit Mr Lemierre will meet Egypt’s Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and
the Minister of International Corporation and EBRD Governor for Egypt, Faiza
Aboul Naga. He will also attend a seminar on doing business with the EBRD and
the opportunities for Egyptian companies.
Egyptian banks are active in the EBRD’s Trade Facilitation Programme, a scheme
to support trade to, from and within the Bank’s 27 countries of operations.
Egypt’s Sirocco Aerospace International has invested heavily in the Russian
aviation industry and the EBRD supported the company with a $50 million loan
in 2003.
The EBRD sees good potential to intensify its cooperation with Egyptian
companies. The country has strong traditional trade links with Russia and
Ukraine, countries with high growth rates and urgent investment needs from
which also Egyptian entrepreneurs could benefit.
