EBRD hosts regional seminar in Tirana
Experts discuss development of energy sector in the region
Ahead of its Annual Meeting in Belgrade on 22 and 23 May 2005, the EBRD is
hosting the third of four regional seminars next week, this time focusing on
the development of the energy sector across south-eastern Europe.
The seminar in Tirana, capital of Albania, will take place on 10 and 11
February and will be opened by EBRD President Jean Lemierre, Fatos Nano, Prime
Minister of Albania, and Karl-Heinz Grasser, Minister of Finance for Austria
and Chairman of the EBRD’s Board of Governors. This will be followed by a
keynote speech from Andris Piebalgs, EC Commissioner for Energy. Other
speakers will include Anastas Angjeli, Minister of Economy for Albania and
Vice Chairman of the EBRD Board of Governors, and Viktor Doda, Minister of
Industry and Energy for Albania.
Ministers, representatives of the international community, business leaders
and experts are expected to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the
development of energy infrastructure in this region.
The seminar follows a conference in Zagreb (November 2004) focusing on the
development of municipal infrastructure, and one in Sarajevo (December 2004)
focusing on the transport sector. It will be followed by a final seminar on
private sector financing in Skopje, FYR Macedonia (14 March 2005), which will
address key issues and see how best to develop the financial sector and
overcome obstacles to investment.
The keynote speakers will host a press conference in Tirana on 10 February
at 15:40hrs, at the Sheraton Tirana Hotel, Sheshi Italia, Tirana, Albania.
