EBRD's shareholder representatives visit Romania

A delegation of the EBRD Board of Directors arrives in Romania on Tuesday for a three-day visit that involves meetings with senior government officials, including Minister of Finance Mihai Tanasescu, local and foreign business leaders and representatives of the international community based in the country. They will also visit a number of projects in which the EBRD has invested.

Representatives of the Board in the delegation are Jean Louis Six and Georges Heinen (Alternate Director), for Belgium, Luxembourg and Slovenia; Gonzalo Ramos, for Spain and Mexico; Laurent Guye, for Switzerland, Turkey, Liechtenstein, Uzbekistan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Serbia & Montenegro; Mark Sullivan, for the US; Simon Ray, for the UK; Susumu Fujimoto, for Japan; and Yuri Poluneev and Stefan Presura (Alternate Director) for Ukraine, Romania Moldova, Georgia and Armenia. They will be accompanied by Hildegard Gacek, Director of the EBRD’s office in Romania.

The visit will enable the Directors to get an impression of the country’s ongoing reform agenda and the challenges it continues to face.  Last year the EBRD issued its revised strategy for Romania outlining priority areas, including private-sector development, support for infrastructure projects, especially in areas such as energy, energy efficiency and electricity and gas distribution, development of the banking and non-banking sector and policy dialogue with the authorities to help improve the investment climate. The EBRD is the largest investor in Romania, with nearly €2.4 billion committed to projects across the country. Working with its many partners, the Bank has mobilised more than €7.5 billion for projects in Romania.

The delegation will give a press conferenceon Friday 18 June at 1300hrs at the Hilton Hotel in Bucharest.
