EBRD First Vice President to visit FYR Macedonia
Noreen Doyle, First Vice President of the EBRD, will visit FYR Macedonia 14-15 July to meet with senior government officials, including Prime Minister Branko Crvenkovski, senior business leaders and representatives from the international community.
During the two-day visit, Ms Doyle will reiterate the Bank's support for continuing economic reforms and explore how the EBRD can help boost investments. Ms Doyle said the Bank is keen to support efforts to establish an attractive investment climate, speed up the commercialisation of public utilities, and strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Ms Doyle is also expected to sign a deal on behalf of the Bank that will help relieve traffic congestion in Skopje, the country’s capital, and to visit Pro-Business Bank, a micro-finance institution in which the EBRD is a shareholder, recently set up to provide much required financing for micro- and small companies.
The EBRD is the largest institutional investor in FYR Macedonia, with over €250 million invested in 18 projects, and has mobilised over €370 million in co-financing.
Going forward, the Bank intends to focus on the development of the private sector through financing of local exporting enterprises and SMEs, on the energy sector, the consolidation of the banking sector and the development of non-bank financial institutions.
