Ayesha Shah appointed Treasurer of EBRD; Axel van Nederveen to be Deputy Treasurer
Ayesha Shah has been appointed Treasurer of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, moving from her current role of Deputy Treasurer and Head of Funding. Axel van Nederveen, who has been Head of Asset and Liability Management since 1997, will replace Ms Shah as Deputy Treasurer.
Ms Shah joined the EBRD in 1993 and became Head of Funding in 1995, taking on the added role of Deputy Treasurer in 1999. Her earlier career included trading and marketing derivatives at Citicorp and she became Executive Director and Joint Head of Swaps at Nomura International in London in 1989. During her tenure, the Bank has significantly extended the average maturity of its medium and long-term borrowings and consolidated its reputation for innovation and cost effectiveness in international capital markets.
Mr van Nederveen spent seven years working in international fixed income with ABN-AMRO and Paribas in Amsterdam and London before joining the Bank in 1995 as a portfolio manager in Treasury's Investment team.
Both appointments take effect 1 January 2002. The position of Treasurer was previously held by Marcus Fedder, who recently accepted a position as Vice Chair and Head of Europe with TD Securities, the corporate and investment banking arm of Toronto Dominion Bank.
