Investing in Serbia

December 2009 - In its eighth year of presence in Serbia, the EBRD has invested €1.7 billion in 90 projects. Hildegard Gacek, EBRD Director for Serbia, explains how both the public and private sectors will continue to benefit from EBRD investments in 2010.

Investing in Albania

November 2009 - Dan Berg, the EBRD Director for Albania, explains how key services in the country have been financed by the EBRD since the Bank started investing in the country in 1993. The country's only airport, the main port, key roads, mobile communications and the energy sector have all improved with EBRD financing.

Investing in Turkey

November 2009 - Mike Davey, the EBRD Director for Turkey explains how the Bank is investing in Turkey to help the country become a fully effective market economy. Infrastructure, the energy sector and small businesses are some of the areas that EBRD investments are targeting in Turkey.

20 years of transition

EBRD President Thomas Mirow, former Polish President, Aleksander Kwasniewski, former Slovak Prime Minister, Jan Carnogursky, and the historian Timothy Garton Ash speak at an event held at the EBRD headquarters in London on 2 November 2009 . Organised by the EBRD and the Centre for European Reform, the event focused on 20 years of transition since the fall of the Berlin Wall.

"Born in '89" essay competition

The EBRD, the Financial Times and the UniCredit Group have launched an essay competition "Born in '89" to mark the 20th anniversary of the collapse of the Berlin Wall. The competition is open to citizens born in 1989 in EBRD countries of operations.

Andrey Kurkov, a Ukrainian novelist and one of the judges, talks about the competition.

EBRD's view of the 2009 Annual Meeting

Manfred Schepers, EBRD Vice President for Finance, highlights key messages of the 2009 Annual Meeting. He describes the EBRD's crisis response so far and the importance of coordinating efforts with other IFIs to strengthen the financial sector in the countries where the EBRD operates.

EBRD 2008 Annual Meeting, Kiev: Histories of Hope

At the Bank's 2008 Annual Meeting, Deputy Director of Communications Larry Sherwin spoke to author Andrey Kurkov, who compiled and edited a book for the EBRD entitled Histories of Hope. This publication features reflections on transition in the EBRD region, bringing together a diverse range of views on the social and economic changes that have affected countries since the end of communism in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.
