European Task Force on Banking, Business and Biodiversity

The EBRD is a member of the European Task Force on Banking, Business and Biodiversity which looks at potential financing mechanisms for biodiversity projects. The Task Force was established in the framework of the Pan-European Biological and Landscape Diversity Strategy. Related biodiversity initiatives include discussions on technical assistance, including capacity building and evaluation of biodiversity impacts of oil/gas development. We are also a partner with the Flora and Fauna International on a pilot biodiversity project funded by the Dutch DOEN Foundation.

Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES) aims to ensure that international trade in wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. The EBRD does not finance trade in wildlife or wildlife products regulated under CITES.

Convention on Bioogical Diversity

The main goals of the Convention on Biological Diversity are conservation of biological diversity; sustainable use of its components ?; and fair and equitable benefit sharing from the use of genetic resources.

The Convention has been signed or ratified by the EBRD countries of operation in Central and Eastern Europe. Each country is obliged to produce and implement a National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plan which establishes the status of biodiversity, and sets out a national policy to conserve biodiversity and how use it in a sustainable manner. Countries must also produce a prioritised action plan which addresses interaction with international organisations such as the EBRD.
