The conference aimed to:

  • Present the results of a recent study by Bendixen Associates, financed by the ETC Multi-Donor Fund, on remittance flows to Moldova, Azerbaijan, and Georgia
  • Bring together all interested parties on remittance flows to the region and explore ways to cooperate with the authorities and the commercial banks in the region, and also IFI's and donors
  • Explore whether there is a role to be played by international organisations or other parties in facilitating remittance flows to the Early Transition Countries

In addition to delegates of the commercial banks in the region, experts of international organisations and representatives from the governments in the region attended the conference.

Legal transition

To move forward, the Early Transition Countries need to increase their levels of financial intermediation and strengthen their regulatory environments. Through its Legal Reform Programme, the EBRD is fully committed to supporting the legal and institutional aspects of the ETC initiative, and to creating a better living environment for the people of the region. In support of this initiative, six reports have been prepared.
