The EBRD’s TurnAround Management (TAM) and Business Advisory Services (BAS) Programme helps private enterprises to adapt to the demands of a market economy. These complementary programmes work directly with individual micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), providing industry specific advice through a multi-tiered approach. TAM focuses on substantial managerial and structural changes within companies, providing the advisory services of experienced senior executives from economically developed countries. BAS supports short-term projects with narrowly defined objectives and, at the same time, develops a sustainable infrastructure for business advisory services in the countries of operation. Areas of assistance include restructuring of the business, improving its products, reducing operating costs, advising on local and export markets and helping to develop business planning skills at management level.
TAM/BAS is fully integrated into the EBRD’s activities, alongside banking and investment.
Crisis Response
TAM/BAS is needed more than ever in the global financial crisis. Strong and competent management is vital to meet the current unprecedented challenges, and this is where TAM/BAS can provide substantial support. Finance is one key, but finance alone cannot solve all the problems MSMEs are facing. For this purpose, TAM/BAS is creating specially selected ‘Crisis Response’ teams, made up of industry-specific experts in key functions, such as operational management and leadership, innovation in products and marketing, cost cutting and control, and debt/equity restructuring.
